Especially, for Triem Tay people, being contacted experts, consulting team and being discussed together, building the social economy development of the village according to Tourism with the specialist vocabularies, exploitation methods, summarizing problems, as well as being introduced about famous community tourism destinations at home and abroad… are strange stories.
From their first moments when he is still like a fish out of water, they has fast taken part in determining to preserve the village over 200 ages and villagers are unanimous in directing the village story escaping from the poverty of many generation to a lively new life!
Old stories…
The story is that the late nineteenth century, a number of Kim Bong people came to explore alluvial deposit region which is contiguous to the village and located along the banks of Thu Bon river. The time later, some families in Phu Chiem from the north bank of Thu Bon river had crossed the river to continue to explore and establish village.
People say that where there is good land, the birds will perch, people arrived here in growing numbers, so the village was beginning to take shape. Kim Bong people had explored this area , so they are considered as "Tien hien khai khan" (Earlier ansectors exploring land). Phu Chiem people who established the hamlet and the village are considered as "Hau hien khai cu" (Second ancestors developing the village). Therefore, the ancestor called this land is Tan Lap (the first name of Triem Tay today) including two hamlets Phu Hoa and Truong Tho of Phu Triem village, Dien Ban prefect although this area is located separately at the Southern bank side of Thu Bon river.
According to Mr. Le Tri Thanh, Deputy Secretary of District Party Committee, Chairman of District People’s Committee, Party, government, branches, levels always create the best advantage conditions to build successfully Triem Tay community tourism village.
The largest target is maintaining a Viet pure village in Dien Ban, Quang Nam. Among that, it is necessary to focus on social security and raise the living standards for people.
Doing tourism is not the story in one of these days. Keeping land and village, bringing into play traditional craft, creating livelihood so that Triem Tay people don’t leave their village, investing in essential infrastructure follow Green growth and sustainable way really are the succeed of the projects. |
The terrain of this small village is almost the same as Isosceles triangle of which two equal sides are surrounded by water river. There is only the bottom side being adjacent to land, so Triem Tay always face to the threat of Thu Bon flow line in downstream, especially in the rainy season. The fight to hold the land and the village has gone hand in hand with people's life in Triem Tay. There are not main materials about the formation and development of the village because of events in historical sequence and the impacts of natural disasters. Village's history is known through stories handed down from generation to generation and monuments, tombs, ancient house ...
According to old story of the village, Mr Le Doan Kiet, who was born in Phu Triem, is considered as the ancestor of Triem Tay mat weaving. Mat-weaving craft village has closely attached to the livelihood of Triem Tay people from the beginning period. At that time, Triem tay people knew to plant the rush, jute as material and transmitted this craft from one generation to another.
Story today
In 2009, architect Bui Kien Quoc invested in developing Triem Tay garden house eco-tourism in the land area threatened massive landslide in Triem Tay village. With a love of Vietnam villages, architect Bui Kien Quoc convert nature with biological embankment system in order to hold a corner of Triem Tay village with bamboos, wells, ancient shrines, rustic houses.
Thanks to the eco-tourism area of architect Bui Kien Quoc, Triem Tay is more well known. There are bendy roads with peaceful small houses behind the row of green bamboo from Cam Kim (Hoi An) or from Duy Phuoc (Duy Xuyen) to Mr Quoc’s resort.
However, that small village is facing to many urgent problems. The riverside land of the village continue to be mudslides. Mat weaving craft is fallen into oblivion; the share of the elderly in the population structure is increasing.
Up to 2015, there are only 37 pupils from class 1 to class 5 (from 6 to 10 years old) . The spacious school built follow preventing flood model with 2 floors have been abandoned. Therefore, the students from nursery level to high school level have to study in neighbouring communes and Hoi An city. People in labour age are very few. There are 156 households with 750 members. Many households only have old people because their children are living in Hoi An or others area.
After a time visiting all village roads of Triem Tay, PhD - Architect Ngo Anh Dao ( MCMS innovative design company ) shared in design for Triem Tay community tourism village named Community garden, she said:
Triem Tay people have confronted flood for years and years. There are abandoned houses, gardens being overgrown with weeds, muddy roads after a heavy rain.
Less of children's voices
Young people gradually left the countryside to migrate to the city to find jobs.
There are only old people working in the garden, raking mussel by the river, weaving mats ...
With the same old face, the same material foundation, these plants and this land, Poverty accompanies the people if they work here by manual labour. The blend and adhesion between human and land has gradually been loose.
What would be the impetus to change? would people associate together and people associate with land? Questions seemed to be difficult to answer but they are very simple and feasible: The attitude and the working style between people and between people and land.
In fact, by considering the matter deeply and choosing an answer for short-term problems and long-term problems of small village, the project for community tourism village was started towards associating between people and land. After a year, Triem Tay has been reinvigorated. There is not small riverside land disappearing behind the bamboos. Triem Tay is a place to which departments, levels, individuals are looking. In addition to functional impacts such as planning, investing in infrastructure, concentrating resources ..., the most important change is that Triem Tay people has recognized the value of their village and they participate in voluntary and have responsibility in preserving and developing the village!
